We worked closely with the international NGO, Habitat for Humanity Egypt, to develop their new five-year strategy. It aims to provide affordable housing to thousands of low-income and vulnerable people in Egypt. We helped them expand both their geographic focus, from a predominantly rural microloan-based model that supports 13,000 households a year in improving existing homes, to providing a range of support to both urban and rural residents in acquiring new housing as well as improving existing homes. Given limited resources, innovative solutions such as social rent-to-own schemes, and participatory needs prioritization had to be found that would both be affordable for the poorest families while at the same time ensuring financial sustainability for the organization.
