Built Environment Deprivation Index

The Built Environment Deprivation Index (BEDI) is a national map of quantifiable deprivation in Egypt, using indicators on affordability, tenure security, durability of housing, crowding, drinking water and sanitation.

BEDI aims to help inform development by identifying in a pragmatic manner both the scale and geographic location of needs. The indicator can be used by government officials, scholars, academics, communities, civil society and development agencies to both identify built environment needs and to monitor progress, for example in relation to the Egypt 2030 Strategic Development Strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
