The Built Environment Observatory

The Built Environment Observatory (BEO) promotes adequate housing and spatial justice in Egypt through the production of open knowledge.

Our research covers a range of urban issues that affect the poor and marginalized, with a focus on housing affordability, access to water, electricity and transportation, as well as climate change and disaster response.

Since 2016 over 30 Policy Analysis pieces and Fact Sheets have explained policy and legislation, questioned planning practices, and investigated public spending. They have also benefited many communities, scholars and decision makers in their work towards a more equitable and sustainable built environment.
